ONS Postcode Directory

Postcode to council mapping uses the Office for National Statistics Postcode Directory under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Shards are processed for lookup. Northern Ireland (BT) postcodes are excluded (LPS NI licensing).

postcodes.io

When a local shard is missing, lookup may fall back to postcodes.io (MIT). That API uses OS, Royal Mail, ONS, and NRS data.

Council parking permit data

Prices come from official council websites and documents. Reuse terms vary. See License Attributions.

DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API

Optional VRM lookup uses the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API under its terms.

Open Government Licence v3.0

Postcode mapping uses the ONS Postcode Directory under the Open Government Licence v3.0. A council website footer or a different OGL dataset is not automatically a licence on that council’s fee table. Do not read the postcode line as a blanket OGL grant for every council tariff page.

Published council sources

Each council is labelled with a machine-derived reuse status. Only rows badged Open Government Licence are treated as OGL material; a website footer OGL notice does not by itself cover a cited fee table.

Privacy Information

VRM lookup

Optional vehicle registration mark (VRM) lookup posts the VRM to our Netlify function, which sends it to the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API for that request only. We do not store or cache the full VRM. Server logs, if written, use a redacted VRM (not the full mark).

Postcode lookup

The calculator stores the postcode you enter in browser sessionStorage for that session so lookup results can be reused, then the browser clears it when the session ends. Postcodes can identify an address area; we do not treat them as anonymous.

Advertising and cookies

Google AdSense display ads are not live: the site is not approved for AdSense, and no AdSense code runs on our pages. Our own cookie banner asks before any optional advertising loads.

Some council pages include labelled affiliate advertising. Affiliate link: we may earn a commission through Awin if you follow a sponsored link to YourParkingSpace. Affiliate links do not change council permit prices or calculator totals. Awin banner images load only after you accept the Advertising and affiliate category in our cookie banner. If you reject it, or make no choice, those image requests do not fire. Clicking the labelled link is a navigation you choose. See advertising and affiliates.

Third-party calls: DVLA (optional VRM) and postcodes.io (fallback when a local postcode shard is missing). Awin banner images are not requested until you accept the Advertising and affiliate category. You can change that choice from Cookie preferences in the footer.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for losses arising from use of this service, including inaccurate prices, downtime, or third-party API failures. This is not professional advice.

Terms of Use

Use this service to check indicative permit costs. Do not present the data as official council figures. Do not scrape the site in a way that overloads it or the DVLA API.
