- Should be verified directly with your local council before applying for a permit
- Does not guarantee accuracy or completeness
- May not account for all pricing variations, discounts, or special circumstances
Important: Always verify permit costs and requirements directly with your local council before applying. This service is not a substitute for official council confirmation.

Data Sources and Licensing
This service uses data from multiple sources, each with different licensing requirements:
ONS Postcode Directory
Postcode to council mapping is based on the Office for National Statistics Postcode Directory (ONSPD).
- License: Open Government Licence v3.0
- Source: Office for National Statistics
- Attribution: Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0
- Modifications: Postcode data has been processed and sharded for efficient lookup. Original data structure has been modified for technical purposes.
- Coverage: England, Scotland, and Wales. Northern Ireland (BT postcodes) are excluded due to licensing restrictions (LPS NI licensing).
postcodes.io API (Fallback)
When postcode shard files are unavailable, this service uses the postcodes.io API as a fallback mechanism for postcode to council lookup.
- Provider: Ideal Postcodes (open source project)
- API License: MIT License (open source)
- API Documentation: postcodes.io Licence Information
- Usage: Used as a fallback when local postcode shard files are missing or unavailable
- Coverage: Great Britain postcodes. Northern Ireland (BT postcodes) are excluded due to licensing restrictions.
Data Source Attributions: The postcodes.io API uses data from multiple sources, each with their own copyright and database rights:
- Ordnance Survey data © Crown copyright and database right 2025
- Royal Mail data © Royal Mail copyright and database right 2025
- National Statistics data © Crown copyright and database right 2025
- National Records of Scotland data © Crown copyright and database right 2025
Council Parking Permit Data
Parking permit pricing information is sourced from official council websites and documents.
- License Status: Varies by council (see License Attributions section below)
- Update Frequency: Councils update pricing structures annually or as needed
- Data Collection: Data is collected from publicly available council websites, PDFs, and documents
- Accuracy: While we strive for accuracy, pricing may change without notice
OGL-Licensed Councils: Many councils publish their data under the Open Government Licence v3.0. See the License Attributions section for details.
PSI-Licensed Councils: Some Scottish councils (e.g., Edinburgh, Glasgow) publish data under Public Sector Information (PSI) licensing. See the License Attributions section for specific attribution requirements.
Pending Confirmation: Some councils require license confirmation before automated data collection. See the License Attributions section for status.
DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API
Vehicle registration mark (VRM) lookup uses the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API.
- Provider: Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
- API: DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API
- Terms of Service: DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API Terms and Conditions
- Data Usage: VRM data is transmitted to the DVLA API only. No VRM data is stored, logged, or cached by this service.
- Privacy: See the Privacy Information section for details.
- Rate Limits: The service is subject to DVLA API rate limits (typically 600 requests per hour)
- Availability: Service availability depends on DVLA API accessibility
- Compliance: This service complies with DVLA API terms, including data protection requirements, audit cooperation, and API key usage restrictions
Important: VRM lookup is optional. Users can manually enter CO₂ emissions and fuel type if preferred.
Note: Unlike Open Government Licence data, DVLA API data does not require visible attribution statements. However, we provide transparency about data sources and link to DVLA's terms of service for user information.
Northern Ireland Postcodes
Northern Ireland (BT) postcodes are excluded from this service due to licensing restrictions. The Land and Property Services (LPS) Northern Ireland has different licensing requirements for postcode data that are not compatible with this service.
